Condolences was born in the ornate archive on the fourth floor of the Ames Library at Illinois Wesleyan University. I found Charlie and Vince when I was tasked with writing a five-page play for my Introduction to Creative Writing course. But when I turned in the assignment, I couldn't take my mind off "The Ballad of Charlie Powers." 5 pages turned into 10, 10 into 20, 20 into 40, and "The Ballad" into Condolences. While the events of this show are fictional, its themes -- 21st century friendship, heartbreak, and betrayal -- are drawn directly from personal experience. Needless to say, this story is near and dear to my heart. To anyone who takes their time to read, see, produce, or audition for Condolences: thank you. From the bottom of my heart.
